Wine shelves coming to Favored Daughter Market on Main Street, and a liquor store moves

Two alcohol certificates on recent City Council agendas, the local step before Tennessee issues a wine-in-grocery or package store license.

Before Tennessee’s Alcoholic Beverage Commission will license a store to sell wine or liquor, the city has to sign a Certificate of Compliance. Those certificates go through the Chattanooga City Council, which makes the council agenda one of the earliest public signs of a new wine aisle or package store.

Favored Daughter Market, 63 E. Main St.

A Certificate of Compliance for wine in a retail food store at Favored Daughter Market, 63 E. Main Street (District 7) appeared on the council’s October 27 and November 3 agendas. The November 3 minutes record the city attorney presenting it. With the certificate, the market can apply to the state for a license to sell wine alongside groceries.

Sunrise Liquors moves to Bonnyshire Drive

The November 10 agenda carries a Certificate of Compliance for a change of address for Sunrise Liquors, listed at 7560 Bonnyshire Drive (District 5). The agenda doesn’t give the store’s previous address.

How to follow along

Council agendas post on the city’s website a few days before each Tuesday meeting. Restaurant liquor-by-the-drink licenses don’t go through the council this way, so these certificates cover stores, not bars.
