From January through September 2026 the city received 101 applications for residential demolition permits, down from 186 in the same months of 2024 and 163 in 2025. That is a 46% drop from 2024 and puts this year back in the 2021-2023 range (96, 119 and 104). Leaving out permits now marked Stopped gives the same result: 172 in 2024 and 92 this year. The drop is not one project winding down. This year’s permits cover 95 different addresses, down from 179 in 2024, and no address has more than two. The work also does not appear to have moved to another permit type: land-disturbing permits that describe tearing down or hauling off a house held steady at 47, 58 and 48 for January-September 2024, 2025 and 2026. Commercial demolition permits fell less, to 211 this year from 264 in 2025 and 224 in 2024. The residential and commercial demolition permit categories start in mid-2020, so earlier years can’t be compared. These numbers count applications. They don’t show why fewer were filed.
