Robberies in Chattanooga have fallen by half since 2020, to the lowest level in twelve years
Chattanooga police recorded 69 robbery cases from April through September 2026.
Chattanooga police recorded 69 robbery cases from April through September 2026. That is half the 138 recorded in the same months of 2020, and the fewest for that window in the twelve years the dataset covers (2015 to 2026). The next-lowest were 78 in 2025 and 92 in 2019. Each case number is counted once, and cases marked Unfounded are excluded.
Full years point the same way: 270 robberies in 2020, 202 in 2021, 228 in 2022, 193 in 2023, 191 in 2024 and 142 in 2025. The 2025 total is the lowest of the eleven complete years; the highest was 365 in 2016.
Most of the drop happened before this year. For April through August alone, 2026 (62 cases) was level with 2025 (63). September 2026 had 7 cases, against 15 a year earlier.
All six police zones were lower in April-September 2026 than in 2020: Baker South 42 to 23, Charlie North 29 to 8, Adam South 22 to 18, Charlie South 19 to 12, Baker North 17 to 6 and Adam North 9 to 2. No single block address had more than three robberies in either window.
Robberies did not move into nearby categories. Over the same window, aggravated assault fell from 828 to 573 and purse snatching stayed between 7 and 10 a year. Cases where robbery was the only offense listed fell from 115 to 64 (-44%), close to the drop in the total.
The dataset records incidents reported to or by police, so it cannot tell fewer robberies apart from fewer reports, and it gives no reason for the decline. The comparison uses April through September because the published file has far fewer records for February and March 2026 than for the months around them.
